Managing Heart Failure – When Should You Call the Surgeon?

Heart failure can be a prolonged condition which require multiple management strategies including medications, fluid management, lifestyle changes, close monitoring by the cardiologist. In spite of these, there will be critical moments which medical managements are no longer enough to maintain or reduce symptoms and surgical interventions become necessary. Knowing when to escalate care to the heart surgeon can be life-saving. In this talk, we will focus on the growing disease of heart failure and highlight examples where surgical intervention can change the course of patients with advanced heart failure.
