Spike in Flu Cases Reported Across Singapore Clinics

Singapore clinics are reporting a sharp rise in influenza cases, with some seeing tenfold increases. Doctors warn that lax precautions and seasonal weather changes are driving the surge.

Singapore: Healthcare providers across Singapore are sounding the alarm as flu cases spike dramatically. Clinics such as Kingsway Medical have reported weekly patient numbers rising from 10 to over 50 in just two weeks. Telehealth platforms like DoctorAnywhere also noted a 40% jump in flu consultations, particularly among children.

Doctors attribute the surge to recent wet weather, which increases indoor crowding, and declining adherence to preventive measures such as mask‑wearing and vaccination. Many residents, relieved by the easing of COVID‑19 restrictions, have neglected annual flu shots.

The Communicable Diseases Agency confirmed an uptick in influenza infections since mid‑August, consistent with seasonal peaks. While the severity of cases remains typical, experts warn that infections may climb further as the flu season approaches.

Medical professionals urge the public to practice hand hygiene, wear masks in crowded settings, and get vaccinated annually. With Singapore’s dense population and global travel links, vigilance is essential to prevent widespread outbreaks.
